Ribosome profiling is a high-throughput technique that analyzes ribosome-bound mRNA fragments to understand translation dynamics in plants. This method provides insights into gene expression at the translational level, revealing which proteins are actively synthesized under various conditions. In plants, ribosome profiling has unveiled how environmental factors like light, temperature, and pathogens affect protein synthesis. This technique complements transcriptomics, as mRNA abundance does not always correlate with protein levels. Ribosome profiling advances plant biotechnology, aiding in the identification of genes and pathways critical for stress tolerance, growth, and development, ultimately informing genetic engineering and crop improvement efforts.
