Plants absorb nutrients from the soil for their growth and development. Plant nutrition is a process by which plants absorb essential elements from the soil to meet their nutritional requirements. These essential elements include nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, boron, iron, zinc and copper. These elements are absorbed from the soil by the plant roots and are then transported to other parts of the plant for use in various metabolic activities. Nitrogen is the most important nutrient for plant growth, followed by phosphorus and potassium. Proper plant nutrition is essential for good yield and quality of crops. It also helps to improve soil fertility and reduce soil erosion. In addition, adequate plant nutrition helps enhance the immune system of plants and make them more resistant to pests and diseases.
