Endocytosis in plants

Endocytosis in plants

Endocytosis is a cellular process through which plants internalize extracellular materials, playing a vital role in nutrient uptake, signaling, and pathogen defense. There are several forms of endocytosis in plants, including clathrin-mediated endocytosis and caveolae-dependent endocytosis. These pathways are essential for transporting proteins, lipids, and other molecules across the plasma membrane. Recent studies have highlighted the role of endocytosis in regulating plant immunity by allowing the internalization of receptor complexes upon pathogen detection. Understanding endocytic mechanisms provides insights into plant cell biology and could lead to innovative strategies for enhancing nutrient acquisition and disease resistance in crops.
