Title : The effects of microcystin extracts to inhibit root-knot nematodes and growth of khao dawk mali 105 rice and ruzi grass

Abstract:

The root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne sp.) are pests that damage plant root systems. The elimination of root-knot nematodes is commonly done using chemicals, which have a harm on the ecosystem and may cause chemical residue. Some blue-green algae have been reported to inhibit the growth of nematodes and some plants. Therefore, the objective of this research was to study the effects of various concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) of microcystin crude extract extracted with water. and study the effect of the extract on the growth of root-knot nematodes, Khao Dawk Mali 105 rice and Ruzi grass. The results of the study showed that microcystin crude extract at a concentration of 100% had the greatest effect on the death rate of root-knot nematodes. The death rate of nematodes after exposure to crude extract for 24 and 48 hours was 77.78 and 80.00%, respectively. In addition, it was found that crude extract at a concentration of 25% and above began to affect the germination rate. of the seeds of Khao Dawk Mali 105 rice and Ruzi grass, and it was found that all concentrations of crude extract did not affect the mean root length, fresh weight, and dry weight of Khao Dawk Mali 105 rice. However crude extract at a concentration of 50% or more affected the average root length. and the height of the trunk of Ruzi grass from this study, it is indicated that the crude extract from microcystin may be a new alternative substance that can be further developed as a nematode-killing agent to replace the use of chemicals in the future.

Audience Takeaway:

  • microcystin extracts may be alternative substance that can be further developed as a nematode-killing agent.
  • replace to use of chemicals to inhibit root-knot nematodes and growth of Khao Dawk Mali 105 rice and Ruzi grass.
  • use microcystin extracts on the growth of other plans.
